The holiday season often brings pressure and emotional intensity, taxing your nervous system. This week, let the Winter Solstice be your reminder to pause. Like nature, we are called to “hibernate”—to go within, restore, rest, and replenish.Your yoga practice is your sanctuary—a space to shift overwhelm into clarity. Place yourself gently at the top of your to-do list. You deserve the space to breathe, soften, and return to yourself.
Since I created Shanti Yoga in McCall twenty five years ago, I have offered a Winter Solstice Practice and Ceremony either at our studio there or at a Boise studio. The first Boise studio was The Yoga Tree of Boise where I conducted our Shanti Yoga Teacher Training and Advanced Studies. This year, we return to The Tree to offer an afternoon, a sacred time and place, to explore the profound significance of this time of year as a symbol of renewal and self-reflection.
The afternoon consists of three sessions….the first two offer experiences where we learn self-care, energy harnessing techniques. The third is a celebration of this time of year. Feel free to join us for any part or all of the afternoon. See flyer below for the details and read more below it. Also, I recommend typing in Winter Solstice in the Search box to find a story I did on Solstice traditions.

In our first session, 12:30 – 2:30 “The Solstice Principle & Self-Care Ethics,” led by Debbi Murphy, Doug Keeney, and Dipaneeti, we will delve into the concept of Authenticity as Service, laying the groundwork for self-care as an ethical imperative to safeguard against burnout and compassion fatigue. This journey into stillness invites you to confront your shadows and dreams, empowering you to harness your inner strength and step into the new season with renewed courage, compassion, and confidence. Following this, 2:45 – 4:45, Jennifer Knight will guide us through “Grounding the Light,” an experiential practice designed to cultivate deep self-nourishment through restorative asana, calming pranayama, and a transformative Yoga Nidra session. Together, we will plant a heartfelt intention, or Sankalpa, that embodies sustained authenticity and renewal as we transition into this new cycle. We invite you to come together as a community for our Solstice Celebration at 5:00 PM, as we nurture connections with like-minded individuals committed to holistic wellness. Embrace this opportunity for transformation and allow yourself to flourish in the warmth of support and shared intention this winter season.
